Sister Act – Creative Team

DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER – Peter Jorgensen

I’ve been involved in musical theatre for over 25 years and I’m still endlessly fascinated by the integration of music and movement to tell stories.

On stage, my career began with local companies like Gateway, the Belfry, Touchstone, RCMT, TUTS, and the Arts Club where I met my wife and partner in all things, Katey Wright in She Loves Me.

As a director I cut my teeth with amateur societies before founding (with Katey) Patrick Street Productions. We’ve produced a dozen musicals over the years including Into the WoodsBat BoyBest Laid Plans, and The Light in the Piazza (Jessie Award, Outstanding Production).  Other favourite directing credits include Les Miserables (Chemainus), Fiddler on the Roof (Persephone), Avenue Q (Arts Club) as well as last year’s production of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory for TUTS.

From adjudicating festivals to leading master classes to private coaching to the Arts Club Musical Theatre Intensive (a youth program I founded in 2002) I’ve been devoted to arts education my whole career.

I love good books, good doggos, and goooood chocolate!

It has been a privilege to play and grow alongside so many amazing humans over the years, here on the ancestral and unsurrendered territories of the Halkomelem speaking people.

MUSIC DIRECTOR – Sean Bayntun

A descendent of Ukrainian, Austrian, and British immigrants, Sean grew up, and currently resides, on the ancestral and unceded lands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples (Burnaby).

Having grown up in his father’s piano studio, Sean made his orchestral debut at 16 with the White Rock Symphony, and at 18 performed as a soloist with the VSO. He received his BMus from UBC and MMus from Rice University (Houston) on full scholarship studying with Dr. Jon Kimura Parker, who encouraged him to explore genres beyond classical music.

Returning to Vancouver in 2006, Sean began music directing and playing in bands, and has co-written several albums and has more than 30 theatre productions worth of experience so far.

He currently represents 20% of Leisure Club (indie rock/pop) and 50% of DAñSE (improvised electronic dance).  Recent theatre includes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (TUTS), Oliver (Gateway), and Heathers (Studio 58).
