Theatre Under the Stars has several seasonal positions available from April – September. Our Operations Team is focused on providing valuable and fun experiences through mentorship and teamwork. Often, we are funded by Canada Summer Job Grants, but will also have positions that do not fall under that category. Seasonal positions are, generally, posted in February or March.

Administrative Assistant (Two Positions Available)

Theatre Under the Stars:

Theatre Under the Stars Musical Society (TUTS) is not for profit society with a mandate to entertain families through popular musical theatre shows, while providing a vibrant outlet and training ground to develop amateur performers and technicians both young and old. TUTS achieves this through a unique collaboration between professionals and volunteers working together in administration, performance, production, and venue operations. TUTS values an atmosphere of inclusion and mentorship in order to build strong character and to promote positive values. Presented at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park, Vancouverites have long considered TUTS a summer cultural tradition with average attendance of approximately 40,000 patrons per year.

The 2025 Summer Season at Theatre Under the Stars brings back the tradition of open-air musical theatre with the productions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Legally Blonde, running in repertory from July 2nd to August 16th.

 

Position Overview:

There are two Administrative Assistant positions: Summer Camp Coordinator and the Inventory Control. These positions will have overlapping and some position-specific responsibilities.

The Administrative Assistant (Camp Coordinator) will be mentored and work closely with the General Manager on the day-to-day operations of the organization. This position will focus on preparation and organizing our week-long summer day-camps (up to 5 weeks) for youth 8-18 years old.

The Administrative Assistant (Inventory Control) will be mentored and work closely with the Operations Manager on the day-to-day operations of the organization. This position will focus on inventory control and ordering to ensure that we are set up for success in delivering a high-level experience to our patrons. 

Both Administrative Assistants will also support other members of the TUTS’ Administrative Team, such as the Operations Manager, Operations & Volunteer Coordinator, Box Office Supervisors, Front of House Managers and Site Assistants.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent customer service to theatre patrons with ticketing inquiries on the telephone and via email 
  • Updating TUTS website to reflect the most current information as necessary
  • Liaising with cast, production, and sponsors for souvenir season programme requirements
  • Assisting in implementation of various outreach events in the community
  • Updating contact lists and general information upkeep
  • Collecting data for marketing research and producing reports on findings
  • Implement marketing material distribution plan within Stanley Park
  • Updating and distributing contact lists and information 
  • Other duties, as assigned

Camp Coordinator Specific:

  • Processing Summer Camp registrations, fielding inquiries & liaising with Camp director
  • Curate Summer Camp welcome packages, including name tags
  • Participate in the set up and take down of Front-Of-House patron experience areas on Summer Camp presentations.

Inventory Control Specific:

  • Liaising between internal parties, sponsors, vendors and marketing consultants
  • Participate in the set up and take down of Front-Of-House patron and VIP experience areas.
  • Ordering and managing inventory of supplies for FOH operations
  • Storing and stocking products in preparation for the evening’s event

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with Mac computers an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to take initiative, proactively anticipate the needs of production, thrive in a busy team environment and work flexible hours
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, multi-task, and problem solve efficiently
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Well-rounded personality with a strong sense of professionalism, work ethic 
  • Passion for the arts
  • Great attention to detail

Additional Assets:

  • Experience with WordPress an asset
  • Photo editing skills an asset

Box Office Supervisor

Position Overview:

The Box Office Supervisor will be mentored by and work closely with the General Manager and Operations Manager in order to provide fluid and easy ticketing experience for our patrons and volunteers. They will coordinate the administration of all ticketing needs, train and supervise ticket sellers and analyze ticketing data on a daily basis. The Box Office Supervisor will also execute and maintain TUTS’ ticketing policies with a goal of building on and improving systems for future years. This position will start May 26th and continue through the summer until August 22nd.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent customer service to theatre patrons with ticketing inquiries on the telephone and via email 
  • Supervising and managing on-site Box Office Volunteer team
  • Lead pre-shift meetings, communicating any pertinent information and news regarding ticketing
  • Ensuring positive experience for volunteers working in the box office
  • Encouraging team spirit
  • Booking group ticket sales, following up on phone call and e-mail inquiries from customers
  • Processing internal company tickets
  • Resolving patron ticketing complaints and concerns and following TUTS policy guidelines
  • Liaising with support staff from our ticketing provider, Etix
  • Coordinate with Marketing Team on ticketing needs for cross promotions and special events.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous Box Office, Front of House, customer service and/or hospitality experience
  • Strong leadership, motivational and delegation skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, friendly attitude
  • Experience working with volunteers and dynamic personalities an asset
  • Able to thrive in a fast paced, team environment
  • Outstanding & organized written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and in flexible hours, including evenings
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office & Excel, PC & Mac operating systems

Remuneration: 

$19.00 per hour

Front of House Manager

Position Overview:

The Front of House Manager will be mentored by and work closely with the General Manager to ensure smooth operation of the lobby and seating area during the run of our shows. The FOH Manager welcomes our patrons and oversees their safety and well-being before, during and immediately after the show. They will also lead and supervise our volunteer customer service team of ushers, baristas, bartenders, and ticket scanners ensuring a positive experience for our patrons and volunteers alike. This position will be 5 days per week from approximately June 26th until August 16th, with training starting mid-June.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering superior customer service to our patrons in collaboration with the Box Office Supervisor
  • Effectively managing FOH Volunteers (ushers, ticket scanners, greeters, baristas, bartenders, etc) 
  • Holding a pre-show meeting with volunteer FOH team to facilitate team spirit and update volunteers on the evening
  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to enhance and execute TUTS’ volunteer recognition program
  • Instructing volunteers on their duties
  • Monitoring and reporting adequate levels of materials and supplies
  • Ensuring the safety of patrons, volunteers and staff through the proper implementation and enforcement of emergency procedures
  • Deliver pre-show speech to audience
  • Liaising with on-site food service contractors regarding integration of operations
  • Preparing FOH nightly report including patron feedback and any incidents occurring throughout the evening
  • Ensuring cleanliness of lobby and seating areas
  • Handing over house to stage manager, keeping to scheduled time
  • Other duties as required

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in Front of House management and/or theatre production an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to motivate, delegate and supervise effectively
  • Experience working with volunteers and dynamic personalities
  • Able to use Word and Excel
  • Extremely personable and friendly with excellent common sense and manners
  • Passion for the arts and customer service

Position Overview:
The Site Assistants will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the TUTS grounds and Malkin Bowl and ensuring the venue is prepared, in a timely manner, for evening performances. This is one of two positions who will work opposite each other to cover 7 days per week and will begin June 25th, or earlier for Site Install, until the end of August.

Responsibilities:

  • Relieving security upon arrival and reviewing security report
  • Maintenance of the grounds and Malkin Bowl (garbage, recycling, light cleaning as needed, laundering towels etc.)
  • Audience chair cleaning & maintenance
  • Opening and closing gate at selected times for tourists to view Statue on our grounds
  • Prepping bar, coffee bar, and cushion rental tents as required
  • Opening the Malkin Bowl for summer camps and any other needs pertaining to summer camp prep
  • Receiving supply shipments

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to lift a full keg
  • Ability to take initiative if something arises
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task as well as problem solve
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Well-rounded personality with a strong sense of professionalism, work ethic

Remuneration: $18.50 per hour

Start Date: June 25, 2025, or earlier – potential for PT/FT work starting late April and extending through to early October
