DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER – Nicol Spinola

Nicol Spinola is a multi-award-winning theatre artist and educator. Nicol has worked with Arts Club Theatre Company (Million Dollar Quartet, Ring of Fire), Bard on the Beach (Two Gentlemen of Verona), Western Canada Theatre and Thousand Islands Playhouse (Jesus Christ Superstar), Chemainus Theatre (Mamma Mia), Gateway Theatre (Anne of Green Gables, Joseph, Cinderella, Oliver), Theatre Under the Stars (Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Something Rotten!), Raincity Theatre (Parade, Cabaret, Company, Sweeney Todd), Sask Express (Seussical), Studio 58 (Into the Woods), Align Entertainment (Legally Blonde, Annie, Shrek) and Capilano University (9 to 5). Coming up this season she is choreographing at Gateway Theatre (Annie), Studio 58 (Something Rotten!), and the Grand Theatre (Come from Away). Nicol is also the Co-Managing Artistic Director of Raincity Theatre, and the Co-Founding Executive Director of Camp Cue, an overnight musical theatre camp for kids and teens.
As an artist and educator, Nicol is passionate about collaboration and creating safe, inclusive spaces where artists of all ages can take risks, play, make mistakes, and grow. She is dedicated to fostering environments that encourage curiosity, resilience, and community.
Nicol is thrilled to be returning to TUTS this season to dive into the whimsical world of Little Mermaid.
MUSIC DIRECTOR – Brent Hughes
Brent is excited to continue his long history with Theatre Under the Stars. This will be Brent’s 12th summer in the park including music directing Something Rotten! (2022) and Cinderella (2018) and playing as a pit musician spanning back to 1987. Brent is also the founding music director for Align Entertainment. He has enjoyed conducting 6 shows over the past 10 years and has received two Ovation nominations with the company. Brent has been teaching music in the Coquitlam school district for over 30 years and is currently head of the Fine Arts department at Dr. Charles Best Secondary. Brent is responsible for all the instrumental and choral ensembles at the school as well as music directing and co-directing the school’s musicals.
